Queen Anne's County

Queen Anne's County, located on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, offers a scenic rural environment strategically located within the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area. Nearby cultural and educational resources are easily accessible because the county is situated within one hour of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Md. and Wilmington, Del.

Two U.S. highways (50 and 301) connect with major interstate arteries such that approximately one-third of the U.S. population can be reached via overnight trucking. Air freight and passenger service is available primarily through nearby Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Locally operated Bay Bridge Airport offers a pilot-controlled, lighted runway, weather information, and fueling 24 hours a day for light aircraft. The airport accommodates private and corporate air traffic.

Queen Anne's 1,480 businesses employ 11,100 workers. Major employment sectors include manufacturing, agriculture and aquaculture, distribution, publishing, food processing and hospitality services. The recreational boating industry in the county generates a $91.0 million annual economic impact, and travelers to Queen Anne's contribute in excess of $38.7 million annually to the local economy. Telecommunications network infrastructure enhancements and the development of technology-based businesses are a high priority for future economic development initiatives.
