Military Installations The list below provides an overview of each of Maryland's major military installations, including information on the types of activities that the installation is engaged in and personnel numbers. Personnel numbers below are estimates which include military and civilian employees as of 2007, but exclude contractors. They do not reflect the changes to the number of personnel that are expected as a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process. Over the next several years, the number of personnel will increase significantly at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) and Fort George G. Meade. In addition, the National Naval Medical Center, to be renamed the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as a result of BRAC, will experience significant increases in patient load and numbers of visitors through 2011. All BRAC recommendations must be implemented by 2011.
